Writing Cycle Guide | Prewriting Drafting Revising Process for ELA Grades 8-10

Writing is recursive. Even though we tell students that writing is a process (true!), the stages don’t happen in a neat 1–2–3 order. Writers move back and forth — planning, drafting, revising, and returning to earlier ideas as their thinking changes.
