The musical fantasy film Labyrinth (1986) is a treasured work of art — created in collaboration with Jim Henson's Creature Shop and Lucasfilm (with writing by Terry Jones). One of Henson's non-muppet films, the movie explores the fantasy world of the Goblin King's castle and labyrinth — played and sung by the superstar entertainer David Bowie. Sarah (Jenniffer Connelly), a sulking teen in the modern world, is tired of babysitting her kid brother. Wishing that goblins take him away — she gets her wish and instantly regrets it. The film charts Sarah's journey as she and her curmudgeonly, friendly guide, Hoggle, risk everything to rescue her brother from the Goblin King's clutches. Not only is the film utterly entertaining, but it is also chock-full of allusions to mythology, literature, and pop culture.
